I kind of took the invitation literally---and about six months later, Greg and I decided that we were ready to embark on an adventure to Uganda with our whole family. We had a lot to figure out....a budget to set...things to buy...and most importantly, an agenda to create. When you're planning an adventure for your family and you aren't going with any particular agency or organization, it's a lot harder than it might seem. We began our planning, purchased our airline tickets, sent what seemed like thousands of emails and researched everything we could to prepare for our trip.
In the weeks leading up to our departure, we decided to collect some items to take with us---especially for those who are out on the "front lines," helping people in Uganda get the resources and help they need. We received coffee donations (Via coffee is a big one for the Americans serving over there--it's even cooler to know that Bob Goff knows the creator of Via coffee!
We received donations of soccer balls and frisbees!
And a TON of brand new soccer jerseys from the SCSA Academy Coaches...
Samara and I spent many nights walking through our neighborhood, talking about the differences in culture, wearing long skirts, keeping our shoes ON (my kids love (!) to be barefoot), and how we would do our best to love each person we meet.
And on the very early morning of June 9, 2014, with a backpack per person, a large suitcase full of donations, and a small duffle bag containing our non-TSA approved liquids for carry-ons, we did it. Our Huffman Family Adventure began!
stay tuned for Part 2 of Huffman Family Adventures....
